Stones

And truth

What truths do gravestones tell?

Besides the dates inscribed.

Loving husband, devoted wife, these words adorn many a stone.

But are they always true?

What truths are left buried, hidden.

They say “the ripper” is buried in Rochester......perhaps.

But no stone tells of this, or the truth, if it is so.

These stones tell little, if nothing of a person’s true self.

The phrase “I’ll carry that secret to the grave” comes into focus as a truth.

How many rotting corpses reside in cemeteries today, that carried their dirty little secrets with them?

Mourned over by unsuspecting relatives and friends.

What foul stench would permeate the ground if their truths were to seep from their flesh?

Bubbling to the surface years after their passings.

What if gravestones told the truth of what they did, etched in the stone by supernatural powers?

Rapist, abuser, murderer, thief.

How different the landscape would look in these shaded, manicured, scars that adorn many a hillside.

fact or fiction

Oooo, I really loved this concept. For all the truth and dirty little secrets about people to be revealed upon death and forever etched on theri headstones!

Very intense never thought of this aspect of graves and meaning to people's life of what they could exude from their past. Very interesting, dig it! no pun intended 😆
