Stolen Holidays
A poem for the challenge about when the holidays used to be full of joy
Stuffed on turkey and gravy
The holidays made the days feel wavy
Around my family I was always the clown
And we liked to drive seeing the lights around town
Nights spent playing video games past our bedtime
Where time froze on a dime
We snuck in the closet to get a peak at our presents
Never understanding the word resentments
Those are the holidays I miss them most
Now a days no one wants to host
So I travel far far away to the cold
Finding someone else to hold
I wish we could turn back time
Before the clock struck midnight, echoing their chime
Every year Santa came and left
But every year it felt like theft
Because my family stopped coming by
And I kept asking Santa why
So here I am halfway across the world with family on my mind
Wishing those holidays were more kind
