Steal Me

Steal me if you dare,

rip my heart from my being.

Mold my mind with the bloody spare,

Try to convince me of what I'm seeing.

-

Try to lecture about my desire,

Tell me, please, why I cry.

Teach me why I can't reach higher,

Preach why my wings can't fly.

-

Steal my right to breathe my air,

To build a life I dream to live.

To soar above what you can bear,

To own my choice to take or give.

-

Try to dull my glow, my shine,

dare to tell me what to say.

but scratch the very first line-

You cannot steal me anyway.

Wow, this is such a powerful piece. The defiance and strength really come through, especially with the vivid imagery of wings and the refusal to be controlled. The final line ties it all together perfectly—no one can truly take away your essence.
