Star Trek or Star Wars

A Timely Quandry

By Andrew C McDonaldPublished 9 months ago Updated 9 months ago 1 min read

Basically a lightly humorous take on the question of whether one would rather live in the Star Trek or Star Wars Universe.

*************************************

Sci Fi fans forget the part where they say

"Long, long ago" in a galaxy far far away

So, despite any advances in space flight

To Star Wars land we shall not alight

To do so would require not only F T L

To reach a past land of squallid torrid hell

But also a time machine set to Way Back

Such as Peabody and Sherman didst not lack

Light sabers are cool but Jedi get slaughtered

Poverty stricken denizens are bought sold, bartered

Evil empire with stupid stormtroopers

Are just majorly in every way complete party poopers

Regardless, the UFP is much more serene

Citizens kneel not to king or queen

No blaster needed to walk down a street

No lack of resources and all is neat

Star Trek has transporters and holo decks

A fantasy land of equality and very few wrecks

If adventure you crave just join the fleet

Be it engineering, science or the captain's seat

There are occasional battles with recalcitrant aliens

Settled quickly with none lacking salience

Warp through space to explore and help

Far flung civilizations not yet on Yelp

So, I'll leave it to you to decide where you'd rather live

ST or SW, each with much to give

Your choice of deadly danger, squallor, starvation, crime

Or a resource rich society of exploration where dinner is on time

If you choose Star Wars don't forget your Way Back Machine

Or if Star Trek just wait for a contact serene

Live Long and Prosper denizens of Tatooine

I've neither watched Star Wars nor Star Trek. Loved your poem!

huh, can't I have the best of both? With a time machine, I could go forwards and backwards...
