Standing White Before You

Do you see color?

I see in black and white / do you see color

Standing White Before You

I see you all ~ brown, yellow, red and white skinned people.

I see you all as equal.

So, I ask you, what do you see, when you look at me?

As I stand here white before you…

Is this what you see … The color of my skin?

Do you see me?

What assumptions do you make?

As I stand here white before you…

If I stood here with my Chilean grandmother, would you see my Hispanic heritage?

Or is it only me … Standing white before you?

If I stood with my Black husband by my side ~ My Black, Brown and Cherokee children…

What would you see?

A wife? A mother? A maker of multiracial children? A cacophony of colors?

Or simply me, standing white before you?

When I present my biological father’s other biological children ~ who also happen to be…

My Asian brother and three Asian sisters.

Do you see me differently? ~ Or is it me standing white before you? …

When will you see, what you don’t see?

Do you see color?

Do you see me?
