Stains that Linger

Everybody's confidante

I have stains that linger for

Everyone comes to me with such darkness

I do try to brighten their day

I smile and laugh

Til my face splits in half

Then they leave me and go on their way

Everyone comes to me with the darkness

Why am I not worth a smile?

Is the day just too bright

To remember the night

Or do I fade after a while?

Everyone that I know has a darkness

And they all to me will share its depths

But the light that’s within

Wrapped in iron and tin

They only will show to the rest.

forever
