Sprinkle Your World in Christmas Cheer
For one day, let us all shine

The societal norm of this time of year,
Is to fill the world with Christmas cheer,
The ambience of sounds that shimmer in my ear,
Of laughter and merriment, perfect sounds to hear.
**
But I can’t help but to feel,
For the loneliness many conceal,
A brave smile, a fake laugh, a hidden tear,
All covering this time that many do fear.
**
For some Christmas brings memories of deep seated pain,
Making them relive the horror again,
Or maybe they’re suffering a recent loss,
A first to endure, a bridge they now need to cross.
**
Let your Christmas cheer overflow,
And surround those who suffer, especially those that do not show,
Let love, kindness and empathy fill every heart,
And make Christmas a time for all to take part.
**
Let’s dry their tears and wrap them in grace,
And watch as a fresh smile alights on their face,
Include them in our plans to celebrate the day,
So no one needs to be alone in any way.
**
Open our doors and our hearts to all,
Make this a Christmas we’ll love to recall,
An orphans Christmas if you will,
Pull up another chair, throw another steak on the grill.
**
For many this year has been tough,
I know for my own year has been terribly rough,
But I’d welcome a day where we can forget,
The tough times, the pain, the pointless regret.
**
Merry Christmas to all who read these words,
And know I appreciate the fact you’ve read and heard,
Pass the merriment to others this year,
As you sprinkle your world in Christmas cheer.

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
