Keeper of Time
Mirthful is your smirk
As you observe
My futile efforts
To slot everything in
This fence will stand
For 30 years hence!
Says the proud carpenter
It is some kind
Of ordinary comfort
I won’t have to dwell on
Building another
In my lifetime
Sweet silence of
Sunday morning
One block of sunrise red
Casts its glow
Before my eyes
Bash and I
Sit peacefully
Observing its beauty
But mind is
Already sprinting
With today’s to-do’s
Last night, dreaming
I was a man
Who spreads his legs
As he sits
Confident, expectant
Casually conferring
With colleagues
Stark contrast to
My invisible servitude
Claiming solitude, this hour
Is its own
Form of stretch
Reconnecting wires
To ports
Myself to mind
Take her to buy this
Walk him here
Check for homework
At least one of them
Likes math
Yesterday, cross-legged
On the ground
Photographing socks
(Yes, that actually is
Part of my job)
Bash ran wild
Wren tried to plunk
In my lap
Wayyyy too big
He’s nearly
My size now
A hilarious jest
That mothers
Rule home, hearth
Chaos reigns true
Hard-handed, heavy fists
This is what
Being a mother
Is like

Chaos, socks, kids that are too big for your lap, and a beam of sunlight. You always have something to say and also lift the lid sorta into your life. I am still grinning at the title and where that fits in within the poem - trust me, it's both great to spread your legs like you own things cos you have a penis and also lame AF when you realise what you're doing. I, for one, think women should womanspread more. erm. Maybe I'm not the solution, but part of the problem! Lol. Anyway, photographing socks sounds cool. I do like feet, and if they're great and funky socks - cool! As ever, you made me think, smile, and get a glimpse at your life through poetry. Fab work - look at me, lassie, saying things like "fab" like I'm not some grumpy fucking Scottish-Italian. Lol.
Thank you so much for sharing part of your life as a mother. I loved reading it and getting to see a glimpse of your life.
Hahahahahahaha but I'm sure you still enjoy this chaos. Loved your poem!
