Extraterrestrial Challenge
Dear Alien, this is a rainbow
Full of colour; a spectrum of light
You're never guaranteed to see one
It’s elusive, evading our sight
As it graces our sky with colour
Whimsical charm fills up the air
On little faces as they point and yell
Triumphant as they stare
Legend has it, there’s a pot of gold
If you could only find the end
A folk tale handed down by kin
A delightful story of pretend
You'll only be blessed with the vision
If the conditions are perfectly right
When darkness is diminished by sunshine
And the water gets caught in the light
A symbol of freedom and beauty
Carried by many, deep in their hearts
A statement of love and acceptance
The rainbow is sacred; a true work of art
You can create one with certain angles
Spawning a shadow of miraculous colour
Refraction causing reflection
Colours flow, complimenting each other
Dear Alien, however brief may be your visit
Be sure to smile if you see one bloom
In the sky on a rainy spring morning
For it will twinkle out of existence soon.
