From your lips, from your eyes
For my ears, to my brain
Time stands still and I laugh
Then that spark starts again
I curse your tongue,
Your humorous ways
Against my will
A laugh escapes
I hate the way you see me
The way you think I am
The sparks you light are not for you
The sparks are only mine
No sparks, no laughs
They’re not allowed
I beg you to quit
Or maybe I will
Away from your eyes,
Your lips and your tongue
No sparks have emerged
I’m back to the dark
It’s quiet and silent
I feel quite at home
At times I remember
A far away glow
About the Creator

This poem captures the tension between attraction and resistance so vividly. The push and pull of sparks, laughter, and self-restraint feels raw and relatable.
Lovely poem.
