Sovereign of the Self

The savage grace of self-discovery

You gotta let them wear their crowns

Spiky, shimmery, golden glams,

If they are adults they’d manage fine,

Or else they’ll find a way to shine,

To rise, to flow, beyond their woes.

Most of them are still kids,

with crumbling egos,

A build-up of traumas sinking

their inner selves.

They want to be rescued,

while not asking for help.

Do you see the misalignment in their hopes?

Who can help if they don’t help themselves?

Still in the shadows they dwell,

?forever?

lost in their shells.

It’s in the forgetting, in the sting,

In the consequence of not doing something.

Let them dance with their fears

under a glittering golden sky,

Allow the pounding passions to inspire their rise,

And when they fall, let them rise with grace,

They own the rights to their crowns,

to fit themselves into some sacred space.

You gotta let them wear their crowns

Spiky, shimmery, golden glams,

If they are adults they’d manage fine,

They’ll find their way into this

wild webbed winding world,

To rise, to flow, beyond their woes.

In the crucible of traumas, they forged their lives,

Through a healing journey, they will rise,

Their diadem of dreams and scars is imperfection,

The masterpiece of a savage sovereign mind.

Just let them be, they will be fine.

Author’s Note: I wrote this poem to illustrate the messy journey of growing and finding oneself. It’s ok to let others make their own mistakes and sporting their “crowns.” Life happens with good and bad, and we need to allow them to coexist. I’ve seen how everybody carries their bruises, fears, and dreams inside them, often hoping for help but uncertain and even ashamed of asking for it. I wanted to show that it’s okay to struggle, fall, and get back up again.

The world can be tough and confusing, but I believe we all have the strength to find our way through it. When I talk about dancing with fears under a golden sky, I’m really saying it’s brave to face our challenges head-on. We’re all creating our own story, scars and all, and that’s beautiful in its own way.

If only we could accept what is not under our control and just let life unfold! That doesn’t mean having no control at all over our actions. It means allowing the uncontrollable to flow. Meanwhile, we take charge of our actions and focus better on what we can contribute to a better world.

Try to accept what you can and what you cannot control. Allow other people to be themselves and rediscover their own journeys. Nobody needs fixing, nobody needs rescue.

It would be nice to simply trust people to find their ways, heal in their own due time, and find their own little ways of shining. We all are works in progress, and that’s okay.

This is for all you queens and kings and your journeys towards rediscovery.
