Alone I stand
Amidst a clamorous cacophony
Of swirling voices
Spanning around me joyfully, like
Confetti; colorful, loud, overbearing.
They uselessly whistle,
Screech, squeal, howl.
Mine should fit among them
Somewhere.
I open my mouth to speak,
But all words are shoved back
Promptly in place
By the whirring torrent of
Senseless sounds, grinning at me,
Aware of their crimes,
Ignoring my presence.
The voices continue their course
As usual, increasing their speed
At once, spinning so fast they
Crash into each other in confusion.
In a moment of silence,
They turn to me expectantly.
Waiting for clarity.
But I, despondent,
Close my mouth and walk
Away.
