Sonnet of a Goodbye Love

Let me say what you meant to me.

let me tell you a secret, soft and slow,

that you might know my mind bright, real, and true:

it was always you, just want you to know.

you were the stray sunlight in all the blue.

*

let me say some things, just for old times' sake,

so please just listen well and listen deep:

when you held my hand, I thought I might break,

and I thought you were mine ever to keep.

*

hush, let me finish, I won't be too long.

it's nice to see you're happy in her arms;

you must have found your heart's answering song,

and she looks so dazzled by all your charms.

*

let me lay this past love to rest at last;

the us we were once is all in the past.
