If you listen close, you can hear her song
Blowing in the winds by the ocean.
A soft melody sung with no cares.
She sings her song to the sea.
Her songs aren’t sad.
This is her place of solitude.
A child’s place to dream.
Where from her heart she gives this gift
An exchange with the elements
Her song for some peace.
She doesn’t notice the hours fly by.
Absorbing the beauty that surrounds her.
The whooshing of the waves
As they crash upon the shore
The warmth and softness
of the sand between her toes.
The smell and taste of the salt upon her lips
A gift from the wind
As it gently dances across her skin
She contemplates what has been
And what she might someday be.
She can hear her mother calling.
But one more minute
One more song
Just a sweet lullaby.
Sung to the sun
As it disappears from the sky.
But the years have passed.
And although that little girl is no longer there.
If you find yourself close to the ocean
I encourage you to take a moment.
Feel the sand’s warmth between your toes.
Taste the wind’s salty kiss upon your lips.
And then,
Close your eyes and listen.
You will still hear.
Her soft melody
Carried in the breeze.
Memories of her song to the sea.
About the Creator
Heidi McCloskey
I have internally decided that I am a writer. Since that decision was made, the voice in my head has changed. It’s become louder as it begs to be released.
