Something Bad

by Sam Harty

By ᔕᗩᗰ ᕼᗩᖇTYPublished about a year ago Updated about a year ago 1 min read

..How easy it is to

....believe

..that bad things

.....only happen

....to bad people.

..People who

.....asked for it.

...Her skirt was too short.

..or

...they blocked the classroom

.....with their wheelchair.

..These excuses

...are neither

......here nor there.

....So they tell us

...don't be a victim

..run

....fight

......flee

..How am I to run when

...someone jumps out and

......grabs me?

..Too many times the first

.....thought is

..something is wrong with me

....when in actuality

..something wrong happened to me.

....Victims aren't

..quitters.

...They didn't lay there

..and say, I give up, go ahead.

..Sometimes it's a choice

....between struggling and

..being dead.

...Oh let's not discuss this

...keep quiet on the topic

..you act like my pain

.....and depression

....is simply symbolic.

..PTSD stands for

....Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

...not always cast the blame toward her.

..One thing people don't see is your only

..a true victim if you give up or die.

...Me? I chose to live and survive.

..So where does this leave us

...in this fucked up world

..where survivors are blamed

......especially if you're a girl?

......I personally plan to live my life and be

..free because I'm not to blame

...that someone bad did something

........bad to me.

So true. At least now we have the phrase “victim blaming” in the vernacular. Baby steps, I guess. We’ve named the thing, now we need to fight it together. Strength and power to you, Sam!
