Something About Me Changed When You Left...

A Poem About Loss

By amandaPublished 6 years ago 1 min read

There’s a place at the end of the road where the two of us would always go.

It was silly to think of it as our own, secret little spot that only we knew,

But really I think we were just eager and desperate to have something to call our own.

Sometimes it’s funny to think about the people we used to be close with,

Then take a look at where we are now and see how much we’ve learned and grown along the way,

All the little things built up over time that make us the person we are today.

It’s not funny when I think back on you.

I don’t believe that everyone who meets are meant to be soulmates, or lovers, or even friends, but you...

You were different.

From time to time, I’ll see that stupid spot at the end of the street that we used to call ours,

And I’ll realize how lonely I am.

How I haven’t really grown or learned anything at all.

I’m just going through the motions.

Thoughtlessly. Day in and day out.

Something about me changed when you left, and I can’t put into words the emptiness I feel inside of me now,

I just know that it’s there, and that it wasn’t there before.

But you’re not the one I miss anymore.

It’s me.

I miss the person I used to be when I was with you.

And I don’t know if I’ll ever get her back again.

Thanks for reading!
