Some battles are better lost.
Run across fields, fleeing, defeated.
Some battles are better lost,
even if they are not really battles.
Heart's wars sometimes surrendered,
some victories, unclaimed, never ours to win.
Some battles are better lost.
I will lift my hands in surrender to a war I never started,
yet was always willing to die for.
Some battles are lost before they start,
unbelieved until past the dawn of beginning.
But I am a soldier's daughter.
So here I stand again,
not with an aimed rifle,
but with a heart in my hand.
