So far away...
For D.K. Shepard's "Keep it 100 Challenge"

__________________________________________________
I wish you were only
a hundred miles away
I'd drive that every day.
My friends talk about
their dates, mates, spouses
and what have you.
But the woman I love
is six thousand
miles away from me
which makes me very blue.
I dream about the next time
that I can make that trip
for I've never wanted so badly
to kiss somebody's lips.
If you would let me I'd be knocking
on your door right now today.
We would ride the ferry
and feed the seagulls
and no one would need to know
we were gay.
I know it may be wrong but I could live
in that closet again for you because
six thousand miles away is just so hard to do.

This one poked me in the chest. Long distance relationships are hard, but having to be in the closet is a whole other page of painful, so it says something implicit/powerful that the distance is hurting more than the closet would.
Such a beautifully powerful but gentle piece - that ending made me well up :/
Just so beautifully written.
I related to this far too much!
Great poem
The longing here was so intense! Loved your poem!
