Snow Hush

An Ekphrastic Sonnet

Winter is fluent in kinds of silence

Utterly baffling to other times

Of what sounds there are, the dog can make sense

But they would mean nothing in other climes

Snow modulates the acoustics of life

Alchemically, it turns everything soft

Freezing makes animals averse to strife

It costs energy to hold flags aloft

The dog persuaded me to walk this night

He loves it when the page of the street's clean

Pages are legible because they're white

The dog follows what winter wants to mean

Tranquilized by the cold, all tongues speak peace

The dog leads me to fear and woe release

Ekphrastic

Well, good on that dog for taking you out and making you ruminate on snow.
