Am I
burning?
my shirt
white with
UPS?
not SPF
dive down
hold breath
heels chafe when
kicking
glad there are
flip-flops on
the boat
something on
sand
go slow
don’t kick up
cloud with
fins
trash?
treasure?
half buried so
hard to see
up-
blow hard through
snorkel-
breath-
rest-
down
coral loses
color in
blue depths
need a light
streamers say
red filter
wonder if
Amazon
delivers to
hotel
shadow in
periphery
turtle?
shark?
brother?
swivel
fins catch
reef
silver-yellow
flashes
scatter
can’t use
handrail
to steady
water slows
still off
balance
up-
blow hard through
snorkel-
breath-
rest-
down-
deeper
muffled engine
above
stay low
boat shadow
overhead
not ours
anchor line
still there
up-
blow hard through
snorkel-
breath-
rest-
mask up-
boat crew on
stern- no
snorkelers
back
move shallow where
sun penetrates
to seafloor
keep breathing- stay
horizontal
own
shadow flexes
on sand
rocks
darkens orange-
fingered
growths
mask up-
crew calling time
come have
rum punch
on
return ride
chin up
swimming back
hot sun already
drying
rime
into bleaching
hair.

A delightful poem… it made me wish I was snorkelling & lolling in the ocean.😊 Happy New Year! Looking forward to reading more of your poems.✅
This was an immersive experience! Excellent work, Penny!
I enjoy the subtleness of silence underwater in the short clips of description and thoughts.
Oh, I had a lot of rum punch on my honeymoon when we went snorkeling!! This was a great :) I loved the 'wonder if amazon delivers to the hotel' part, ha!
I was there with you. We had a great time. Rum punch all round!
