I became a freak on stage
to disclose all the intricacies of the so-called lowlife
a pathetic show with me in rags
fighting with my own shadow
-
what lies behind this safety curtain?
is there all the knowledge I need to gain?
to smooth out rough edges and feel good
with the world getting along on its own without me?
-
then I delve into my little world
where they say everything is wrong and that I am scum
looking out of sorts
while passing my own yard
-
contempt observed and felt inwardly
despite the smiling face outward flaunt
that’s enough for now and thanks for the jest
I think there are too many faults in this zone already

Reminiscent of "The Elephant Man", "This Is Me" from "The Greatest Showman", & "Loser Like Me" from "Glee". Grieving with a nod & a smile. Those who would call you scum without taking the time to get to know you are worth your time, especially if you've done nothing to either them or theirs.
Superb.
