Smooth of Tongue, Knife to Our Back
For the Smooth Challenge
Attract and entice
with
the silken smoothness
Of your faux-balm-like
words
You soothe, calm
and
lull us into a false sense
of security and trust
Standing on high
feeding us the lies we want
the lies we need to sleep well
Smooth of tongue
Soft to our ears
False promises
Delightful ideals
We're all equal
We're all important
Smooth to our soul
With a knife to our back

Bravo. We are all equal indeed. I’m all for social justice. Liked this a lot. Reminds me of my older sister 🐍 ;0)
All too true, my friend. A marvelous poem!
And that is why I prefer brutal honesty over sugar coated lies. The sweeter the words, the sharper the knifes that they stab our backs with! Loved your poem Sir Paul! 🍩🥐
All the smoother for the truth behind the words, all the more vicious for the intent with which they're spoken.
great poem and entry
Hmm I think we are all in on a theme! Great job! Snake adds to it!
Love this -Now that is the voice of cynicism I'm down with! Brilliantly executed and the ending stabs pretty damned hard 🤍
Ooooof I read this from you and that top story from Celia right in a row and my heart needs a break! Seriously though, this is amazing work, Paul!
But for the knife, I hope, I read this as a parent. Oh. I just re -read it. Perhaps even WITH the knife.
