smile through the darkness

Poem. Inspiration for me and anyone else that needs it.

By Paul StewartPublished 2 years ago 1 min read

curl your lips into a smile

plump, warm and welcoming

even if just for but a while

*

remind me of the happiness

that exists beyond the veil

the dark veil of hopelessness

*

let laughter escape your lips

just for a while, a moment, a spell

tickle me gently with fingertips

*

sing a silly song, make me cringe

put sadness to the side, for now

so people stare like we're strange

*

curl your lips into a smile

even if just for but a while

*

Thanks for reading!

Author's Notes: Recently had a lot of bad news and hard to deal with stuff. This is a call for some lightness in the dark. A reminder that in our darkest times, there is always the hope of light. I hope it is helpful for anyone else going through similar rocky times. I needed to write something positive, uplifting and, it seems, something that rhymed lol.

“So people stare like we’re strange” - yes! 🙂 Hope you are going alright though - all things considered! 😔

  • Twinkle twinkle little Paul, Come with me let's go to the mall, Buy anything that makes your heart fly, Because I only wanna make you smile. My attempt at a silly song to make you cringe. Hope it helped 😅 Sending you lots of love and hugs ❤️

  • I do like being silly & having people look at me strangely, in spite of my clinical depression. So Paul, here it is, just for you: 😁

Even if just for a while is such a bitter sweet line and a fitting refrain for a bitter sweet poem. I really felt this one, Paul. Beautiful, beautiful poetry.

  • Wow! Always a great poem! You have such a creative mind!
