Everything’s so smart these days,
Your phone, your watch, your car,
The world’s interconnected,
So close, and, yet, so far
Watching other people’s lives
While your child begs you to play,
Playing all the newest games,
As the hours slip away
“Mama, come and sit with me!”
“I’ll be there in a bit!”
But in a bit, there’s something else,
Where do your children fit?
You tuck them into bed one night,
A tiny, little babe,
And wake up in the morning to
Them grown and gone away.
Everything’s so smart these days,
How could you not, then, see?
The clock hands don’t stop moving
Just to let you watch TV
Sit down with your children,
Play a game and read a book
Don’t let it be too late,
When you decide to take a look
Your cell phone will not miss you,
The TV will not cry,
But you’ll miss your biggest blessings,
If you never even try
To leave behind devices,
Focus on what’s real,
Don’t be afraid to lift your eyes,
And tell you how you feel
Everything’s so smart these days,
The car, the truck, the bus.
Everything’s so smart these days.
Everything but us.
