I wake up daily, dead inside.
I ruminate, worry, rehash, search.
Search for a memory of a memory,
hopeful or joyous.
A repeat performance of a good day,
a good moment. A reason to rise.
Life is good. Living is hard.
My mind won’t obey the sun’s command.
Still, I fight to flee from the carnage
of my darkening fears.
I’m not a morning person.
Yet don’t pronounce me dead at dawn.
I refuse to be a mourning person,
for very long.
