Sleepless Sounds and Silhouettes
A late-night piece written about a partner I adore
It's four-a-m
And my body won't sleep -
Not when moonlight filters in through half-closed blinds,
And frames your face in such a way that I can't bear to look away.
Your hair is almost silver in this light,
Your nose a gorgeous cliff against the soft plains of your face.
I am reminded of a goddess bathed in moonlight -
A protector, a warrior, phantasmal and resplendent -
And I know she has given us this moment.
Artemis allowing us this time when time does not exist;
Together, alone, loved, gentle.
Nothing matters so much as trying to memorize your lines.
I will try to draw them later;
It won't work as well in the day -
Not when time exists.
I will try anyway.
~
It's four-fourteen-a-m
And my body won't sleep -
Not when it can hear you breathing,
When it can align my heartbeat with your rhythm.
It reminds me that you are here:
Safe
Loved
Loving
And I can't bear to stop listening.
I'm reminded of a river flowing quiet in the night -
An unending source of life and safety -
And I know the earth has given us this.
The most natural of existences;
Quiet, peaceful, sweet.
Nothing matters so much as hearing you breathe,
And knowing
This moment
Is just for us
