sleep paralysis

shove the baggage down deeper, it’ll just resurface when your defenses are lower.

I had a panic attack in my sleep

woke up thrashing, gasping for air

just the same as the dream.

Sometimes I wake up scared

thinking you’ll be there.

Passed out, and fell on the side of my head

blood spilled from my nose and ear

woke up thinking I was dead.

Feeling for the wound

trying to confirm it’s not real

even in my sleep

the pain was just too surreal.

That’s when it attacks

the memory of you- it’ll always come back.

I’m good at keeping it at bay

keep it subdued

but I guess now, that’s only when I’m awake.
