Sky-Blue
A Villanelle of Unreachable Longing and Haunting Absence

I reach for Sky-Blue where the daylight fades,
The river bends with echoes—echoes I cannot name,
A sky so vast it burns me through the shades.
.............
The fire smells of cedar in the glades;
Yet your absence burns like flame, like flame, like flame,
I reach for Sky-Blue where the daylight fades.
.............
I traced your footprints where the snow still braids,
The earth in white—white silence, white ache—though nothing feels the same,
A sky so vast it burns me through the shades.
..............
The wind whispers truth through trembling blades,
Your voice a ghost—a ghost— your laughter a lost claim,
I reach for Sky-Blue where the daylight fades.
.............
The maple bleeds, and still my heart persuades
It might return—return to me— but nothing will reclaim
A sky so vast it burns me through the shades.
.............
I walk alone where memory invades,
And call your name—your name— through dusk that knows no shame,
I reach for Sky-Blue where the daylight fades,
A sky so vast it burns me through the shades.

This reads so lyrically - I especially like the refrains in the middle of each stanza, like an echo. Beautiful!
