The beach was my home, But I wasn’t homeless. The subtropics guarded me, From cold, rain, and sun.
I chose to live with nature, And to take advantage of all she offered. Working to eat and play, I had all I needed.
Food and drink and recreation. My needs were simple, And for that season and those two years, I took little thought for creature comforts.
My comfort was found in blue, Where sky and sea meet. Where the sun, moon, and stars kiss the horizon, Rise to their zenith and drop to their rest after their journey.
To be alone is not to be lonely. For some it’s a choice. To be lonely is not to be alone, But for many, an unwitting choice.
The time came for a return to “normalcy” And to a more traditional way of life. Blue eyes to explore came into view, And pulled me from a hermits existence.
A partner to make a connection with Was on the horizon. To arise with from the sea of sleep And to lie down with in the land of nod.
No person should stay an island. It was merely an existence I wished to explore. But after exhausting the minimalists existence, Rest was easily found in the blue eyes of another.
