skeletal hands gripping my neck
pinning me high against the wall
restricting saliva and oxygen
from passing in tandem
each quavering gulp
held tight at the entry point

If ever I started to slip
a firm squeeze kept me dazed
with every vibrant emission of light
a flash of darkness dimmed my rays
every time I tried to run
I found myself
back in calcified chains
day after day

razor-sharp claws
clutching at my feet
slicing at my back
as I hurriedly abscond in a
fit of blind, silent terror
shredded cloth
streaming in the breeze
like the majestic fringe of
a formal flag on a hot summer's day

Argento’s ninth (eighteenth in earth years) Birthday came and went Thursday, the thirteenth, and he’d already received his father’s gift, if you could call it that. You had to commit a fairly serious infraction to be cut off; the Arch-Baron was keeping up appearances and maintaining his own reputation as much as any sense of love or attachment to Argento with his “gift.”
