Sincerity

Sunday lessons

By M. A. Mehan Published 8 months ago 1 min read
if you see any words misspelled, no you don't. I'm a writer, not a spellist

Watch their lips and count their teeth

Guard your trust with lock and key

The air grows thick with honeyed words

When sincerity’s a commodity

/

Whispers buzz in insect swarms

And truth becomes a luxury

A million lies take friendly form

When sincerity’s a commodity

/

When faces are polished like porcelain and glass

And open smiles are an oddity

You’ll see that perfection is outsourced and effort is crass

When sincerity’s a commodity

/

When too many fingers and two-faced words

Are praised as accessibility

When scorn is the feeling that unites the world

When sincerity’s commodity

/

When gossip and blue light are how we relate

And faith becomes a luxury

We are all reduced to a flatterer’s fate

When sincerity’s a commodity

This really hits home. I've seen how insincerity can spread. People being fake just for the sake of it. It's sad when truth and sincerity become hard to find.
