Shrewd eyes in dark days.

It was the days prior to Autumn, the skies shrouded by a veil,

Sorrow that went about, for what was and what it would entail,

"Pitter, patter," droplets flowed, the mourning in the skies,

For all my heart had sought, and where my desire lies.

I looked out from my window, the thunder then to thrash,

The land so dark and dismal, with lightning as a spear, to clash!

The days so cold in mourning, before winter would rule so absolute,

Where judgment was shrewd and keen, to survive, so sure, astute!

So it is with all who abandon hope to thrive,

But gaze with coldest eyes, for the means to survive...
