A sound unlike others,

Should have been the clue.

But still, I was struck by you.

Shot without reason, I fall.

There on the ground, I lay.

In the middle of the fray.

My life never seemed so small,

But that happens to us all.

No one cared enough to help,

So my time had come and gone.

As if only some pawn,

I died without a cue.

Once the light faded, one came.

Someone finally noticed.

He picked me without protest

And threw me into the trash

With other paper targets.
