Ship

of fools

By William AlfredPublished 10 months ago 1 min read

If your crew are mercenaries,

each out for themselves,

who only follow orders

as long as they get rewards,

then you'd better hope you continue

to have rewards to give.

Mutiny flares in an instant

when the booty vanishes.

At the slightest sign of scarce

pickings for such a crew,

their fists will rise in anger

at the captain's blustering orders.

And as the ship capsizes

with all hands aboard,

the captain sees too late

that greed was his captain always.
