Shining in the distance
Only another day, fail or fight

I see something shining in the distance
A spark or a flash, perhaps an explosion.
A man asks questions of the world
In a song, really of himself, not trying
To make a statement on it all, just
Wondering aloud.
This is not threat or promise
Not even a guess,
Just a “maybe.”
Just an idle wondering.
What does happen to a dream deferred?
Is it any worse than a dream realized?
A man with 700 wives and all the
Wealth he could imagine called
Everything meaningless.
Maybe the luckiest was Alexander
Who died so quick after realizing
His dreams, before could set in
The fact the hole was still there.
I’m worried; I’m scared
Make no mistake
By every day and the thought
Of how little I get right, but
I’m still breathing, and many have made more with less,
Myself included.
Not to say failure is a pleasant or benign experience,
Just that it’s only another day, fail or fight,
And they keep on coming despite all the planning,
All the worry all the wondering and sleepless nights.
