Before I was here

I was there

and there I was a rainbow.

Glimmering, shining

my only purpose but to shine brightly

and what a purpose.

My shining did not cause suffering,

it did not cause anyone to shine any less

it didn’t cause anyone to fear.

It brought hope

creativity

love

joy.

And I could not be anything else

It was my sole purpose

my soul being.

And now I am no longer there

but here

I am still a rainbow.

Still joyful

still glimmering.

But sometimes

being a rainbow seems like a dream

a children’s fairytale.

I forget that it is who I am

and who I will always be.

Not for anyone else

but for me.
