Shine Upon My Heart
A Passionate Ghazal by Vahshi Bafqi

Vahshi Bafqi, a 16th-century Persian poet, is celebrated for his deeply emotional and heartfelt poetry. His ghazals often depict themes of longing, devotion, and the agony of separation. In this poem, he expresses an undying love for the beloved, pleading for their presence like the moon shining upon the world. The poet's voice is filled with both hope and despair, illustrating the universal struggle of love—seeking affection while enduring the pain of distance.
🌿 O moon of mine, shine beautifully for those who see,
For you are my moon—let your light touch all, endlessly.
Like the sun, rise from the sky of beauty’s height,
Oh, how I long for you to grace my fate with light.
Even if you grant me nothing, I will still be content,
For apart from you, I desire no other event.
If I survive this sorrow, if I endure this pain,
I will still seek your love—I shall not refrain.
Take my hand, for my heart has fallen at your feet,
Like a teardrop descending, seeking your touch so sweet.
