She Was Only Eight
A Child's Strength

She was only
Eight
When I was
Sixteen.
That little
Girl so full of
Dreams.
~~~
Her voice like an angel
She could belt
Out Whitney Houston better
Than anyone I knew!
~~~
She was only
Eight
That lonely
Little girl,
I gave my
Childhood doll to
Because she needed
Something to cling
To.
But she gave
Me so much
More.
~~~
A little girl
With a heart
That was broken
Beyond repair
A transplant
The only solution
I saw her close to
Death on far
To many ocassions.
But I never
Knew if she
Received the
Heart that would
Keep her living.
~~~
Time marched
On
I graduated
But I never
Forget that little
Girl
And that old Diamondback
Bike
Her Mother gave me
For babysitting so
For free
No money to
Spare
When you’re a
Sick mother
To a dying
Child!
~~~
I didn’t care
About the money
I would have
Continued to Babysit
For free
Because truth
Be told
I received
Something far
More valuable
Than money!
~~~
A sixteen year old
In a sea of adults
And I was the only
One she trusted
To take care of
Her fragile
Little girl
Who was
Stronger than
Anyone I knew.
~~~
From
Time to
Time
Early
In the morning
I’ll think
Of that
Little girl
Praying she got
That heart
While knowing
That would mean
Another Mothers pain!
~~~
She was only
Eight
I was sixteen
When she taught
Me
That life could
Be fragile
A gift not
To be taken
For granted!

This is so beautiful it moved me to tears. I hope with all my heart that she survived and is now a mother herself ❤️
