She loves the feel of country

Driving on the dirt backroads,

Camping around an open fire

Getting lost at the crossroads.

***

She adores the smell of rain

And she loves telling stories,

Finding the moon listens to her

As the sun rises in the territory.

***

She knows she’s a silly girl

When it comes to love,

Picking the wrong hearts

Getting hurt because of.

***

She’s a very strong woman

When it comes to survival,

She’s beaten the odds

And worn the reprisals.

***

She can be severely torn apart

And still look so put together,

But underneath she’s a mess

Hiding behind the stormy weather.

***

I gaze upon her messy life

And see a goddess, an old Soul,

A lonely empath trying her best

Heart breaking as it takes its toll.

***

But come what may, she rises

Another story for her memoirs,

She traverses her ups and downs

As she capers amongst the stars.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
