She was two when she told me her favorite color was rainbow.
Everyone always thought it was so cute,
But they tried to get her to pick just one,
And she’d simply respond, “Every color is beautiful.”
Now she’s eight, and rainbows still are her favorite,
From the bow in her hair, to the fuzzy rainbow shoes,
Colors are her inspiration,
Fascinating her imagination to create.
But rainbows are more to her than simply colors,
They represent the brightness in people,
Prompting her to compliment every person
With multi-colored hair, or brightly appointed jewelry,
She thinks rainbows are goodness,
That they are all things lovely and nice,
And that kindness is offering
Rainbows to others to brighten their days.
Today she told me that rainbows were more than colors,
That they bring things together,
That they make people whole…
And in that moment,
I realized my daughter understood the world in a way I hadn’t seen before.
Now I see in rainbows too,
But only with her by my side,
Or in my mind’s eye,
Because looking at the world through rainbows,
Allows us to experience the most beautiful pieces of everything.

You have a spirit child, a rare gift. I fully understand. She has one of those beautiful old souls, different, was here before, or so it is said. She will be loved for her spirit. People will gravitate towards her. Cherish her.
