She’s So Much More Than You Perceive

Once her inhibitions are released

She has a strength hidden from view to those that cast a blind eye,

Those judgemental beings that believe only what they see,

She feels pity for those that live within such nonsense,

Because they never have the fortitude to become who they’re meant to be.

**

Whereby she sees things a little differently,

Yes, she knows she looks like a normal woman on the outside,

But she also understands she is so much more,

So much more on the inside that she uniquely likes to hide.

**

She tackles life from the depth of her soul,

Nurtures her quintessential self that harnesses another’s view,

Although on those nights where the full moon kisses her lips,

She allows the depth of her inner beauty its freedom to finally shine through.

**

She wanders down to the river’s edge with just the moon lighting the way,

Perching on the bank overlooking the water, in awe of her reflection,

For there gazing back is her fiery, tumultuous dragon,

And on her back is the princess with the golden hair and pale complexion.

**

She smiles at her counterpart, waiting to give the command,

Impatient to release the pair and let them spread their wings,

She smiles tenderly down upon her reflection, receiving a mirror-imaged smile in return,

Letting her heart swell at the comfort such an experience always brings.

**

With a click of her fingers she whispers her permission,

As her dragon puffs a gust of fire across the valley floor, settling in to a slow burn,

The release an orgasmic shedding of all the falsity labelled upon her,

Judgements and small-minded acuity ravaged in the heat, never to return.

**

Together they soar to the heights of absolute freedom,

Her beast refusing to ever allow the misconceptions to tame,

She rides the wilderness in carefree abandonment,

Releasing every inch of her discriminatory shame.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
