She Needed No Other

She stood out from the crowd

As you walk into the room, you catch her eyes

Where she sits quietly, hidden in the recesses,

A smile graces her majestic face, so confident

Knowing she is the wolf among the princesses.

***

She watches you closely as you walk over

Recognising she’s the lioness among queens,

You hope to conquer her strength, her power

Undermine her self love, so try by all means.

***

I believe you’ve strongly underestimated her

You’re royalty, but she has no need of a prince,

As she has all she needed to survive, to live

Is self efficiency, never needed others since.

***

Yes, maybe one day you’ll become king

But this does not sway her opinion at all,

She can boldly turn you away, no regrets

Passing judgement on you, a Neanderthal.

***

She is both the sword to slay her nightmares

And the dragon to protect her innocence,

She fears neither, acceptance is the key

You’ll see her strength is her greatest defence.

***

She does not need your pity, your empathy

As she shows you her pain, hear her screams,

She will not be beaten, she will never fall

She’ll welcome the chase, of her own dreams.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
