Shattered Hercules
Growing up is always difficult as we begin to see the world for what it really is, rather than the fairy tale we believed it to be.

Under the infinite night sky he stands tall. Able to reach into the stars and pluck out a dream. He smiles and laughs as he places the rare diamond in my hands. Larger than life were the arms he wrapped around me shielding me from the dark shadows that charge toward us.
Shining in the swirling black abyss he dances and plays calling to me. When the Sun is swallowed he whispers to me telling me that it will all be alright. As lifts the sun back into view.
Under the infinite night sky he seemed larger than life. He was my hero. The hero who played in galaxies and promised the Sun.
In the doorway he stood as the Universe shattered around us. With his back turned his dark silhouette stood motionless. When the stars all fell from the sky and I searched for his protective embrace I found that his strong arms had turned to cold stone.
In his place under the infinite night sky a stood hollow statue. My hero was gone. The diamond stars had all gone dark. I could see the shadows that approached.
Alone and afraid I was when the shadows crashed into the statue. Laughing and mocking me as they surrounded and suffocated me. Shoved against the stone figure I heard the crack. The shadows were the ones dancing as the statue crumbled to dust.
Under the infinite night sky I watched as my hero was shattered into a thousand tiny pieces. Under the infinite night sky my heart was left shattered.
