Shady Characters

Living a Lie

Shady Characters

Facts and figures, poverty and famine,

Proven to be afoot if we only examine.

The world as it was, is no more,

No glitz and glamour only poverty at the door.

It was said that all would be well,

When politicians their speeches to tell.

But after it’s all said and done,

There’s no change, nothing new under the sun.

It’s an ongoing dilemma in this cycle of failure,

Where words are spoken and believed, but no closure.

These conditions, moments so convincing,

Never come true but leave people winching.

Living from pillar to post, is often the reply,

When asked how things are going, we must do or die.

Yet, in ivory towers some distance away,

Are those who have crippled day after day.

So are we to believe that this is okay,

This cycle of promises is continually portrayed.

Or should there be a reckoning, a judgment day,

Standing to our feet demanding another way.

So stop with promises, the things that you do,

Tell the truth to the masses, and bid us adieu.

Go your own way with your daggers and lies,

Let us determine our own truth in our lives.

To believe a politician, accepting what we’re told,

Has become detrimental to everyone young or old.

For them to be transparent would only mean one thing,

That their lives would be over, no more axes to swing.

Cut the ties that bind us to rhetorical quotes,

Of how our lives would be better if we only vote.

I’d say we’d be much better off tomorrow,

If those in power understood our sorrow.

No longer should we support you or your cause,

But let you linger and experience life’s deadly claws.

Then and only then would you understand,

What it’s like to be the common woman or man.
