Shadow Of A Dove On Deaths Row

I May Day tomorrow, however my spirit is forever free

Shadow of a Dove on Death’s Row

On death row, I made a dove,

through the window’s bars,

I set my spirit free.

Fingers bent in quiet prayer,

shaping wings of light above,

a shadowy ghost against the wall,

a dream of what could be.

The world beyond is lost to me,

the sky a distant sigh,

but in this dim-lit,

narrow cell,

I teach myself to fly.

No judge, no rope,

no locked embrace

can steal what I have made,

a shadow born of fading sun,

a soul that won’t be caged.

So beautiful and it reminds me of even though sad when someone is dying and the soul wants to fly free from this earthly form.

  • The dove of peace and freedom. I love the setting here.
