Serpentine Clean

Surreal, Stream of Consciousness, Reverse Poem. For Poppy's Prompts Thingo #7

By Paul StewartPublished 2 years ago 1 min read

Minor, that chord, it sounds for us

Mirror, the chant, the fall's choir

The serpents gather for their feast

With empty eyes and honeyed tongues

Minor chord, in dissonance, a fall

That fall so high

The lies, like a newspaper man, I

Am the serpent... am I? The fall

Is mine... the chord is struck

The fall is mine.

The parallel of the man who had

Said it all and nothing at all

The newspaper man, who had

So the chord it sounds out

For me -the serpent who had the fall

I have become, what?

The opposite or parallel of the man

Who dressed the serpent, played

The fall.

Turpentine to clean

Serpentine gleam

Impressive weaving of words here, Paul! Inverse poems that have a double meaning intrigue me and this definitely accomplishes that

  • Whoaaa, you used those words so many times! Well done, Sir Paul! 🍩🥐

You employed a lot of symbols in this poem, Paul, almost dizzying in potential (double) meanings. The serpent and the fall, I am (name of God), the Greek chorus (choir), and a sense that all of us bear some responsibility for this messy state of affairs. But what struck me the most was the sense of double-talk, political speak, meaning buried in superfluous language. Of course that characterizes the stunning sophistry of this age: truth is what ever you want it to be, the loudest person in the room is always right, you get to have it your way, etc. Of course everything I just wrote might be a load of bollocks as well! 😳

Ours is an age in which the serpent often prevails! You have crafted a provocative poem once again, good sir!
