Serial Dater

A curse I'd like to break

My dating life is a series of mistakes

I lose dates like I lose money

Like the girl who wore my t-shirt

The one I can no longer wear

I’m stuck with a hole in my pocket

And I don’t know how to fix it

No matter how I try to change myself

They keep slipping through the hole

Every time is different, but always ends the same

..

I don’t know how to date.

How to be someone’s maybe.

I don’t like how it feels.

It’s like walking around in ragged clothes

Holes everywhere

Threatening to expose me

Helplessly waiting for them to drop

To leave me like they always do

..

I blame myself mostly.

Not knowing what to say or how to act

I feel like an imposter

I don’t want to be good at dating

But I need to be

I’d like to break the cycle of first dates

To be the man who steals a kiss

Not the man thinks about the one he missed

..

They slip through my fingers like the hole in my pocket

Like a ragged pair of jeans that almost look good but don’t feel right

There’s an assuredness that’s lacking

A confidence that only comes from positive experience

But how do I find confidence in clothes full of holes

Like the ones she made when she left

..

They all leave

Taking pieces of me with them

Leaving me here all ragged

Waiting for someone to sew me back together
