ten years since

I've heard your voice

held a conversation with you

wrapped my arms around your torso

squeezing so hard because

I never wanted to let you go

ten years

wow

it's already been ten years

that's an entire decade

of heartbreaks

and successes

and new people coming

and going

ten years since

I've experienced the first tear shed

over losing you

ten years since

I've had to hear those dreaded words

ten years since

the worst possible thing I could have imagined

actually happened

ten years

it doesn't feel like it's

been that long dad

it doesn't feel like I've been away from you

for that long dad

ten years

and I'm still here

surviving

climbing the ladder towards my success

ten years since

you last heard of me dad

and boy am I trying so damn hard

at making sure you still remain

proud of me

heartbreak
