Signs and symbols in daily use

To navigate a life

Well loved

And moderately lived

We heed stop signs

With care and attention

Green lights approve

Our good choices and actions

The peace sign encompasses

A whole concept spanning

Humanity’s consciousness

Acutely aware of its cost

How can four lines drawn

Stand for a hope so revered

In such simplicity

So too, do we fight

For all we hold dear

A fraction of eternity’s breath

Invested in our resolute conviction

Yet, with two million words

In the English lexicon

I still cling to emojis

To express emotion

Wielding language with precision

Takes confidence and time

Until the day I am

Well armed with words

That accurately describe my joy

(A Millenial bad habit

But fun, nonetheless)

Silly icons with ochre skin

Entirely human, in their use

Shared to convey

Genuine affection

☺️

Your words are anchored within

My ocean of feelings

🥹

They change my outlook

For the better

🥳

I take the utmost pleasure

In your existence

🥰

I send you love

In all its forms

❤️

That “two million words but I still cling to emojis” line—so relatable, so real. Sometimes a smiley just hits deeper than a sonnet. 😊
