Self-Respect: The Strength Within
A Poem on Dignity and Inner Pride
By Amrita JannatPublished 10 months ago • 1 min read

With my head held high as I walk,
Speaking my own truth in silence,
My life is mine and not in the hands of others.
My route, my way, and my own goal.
Even if I don't have anything to show,
I am proud of what I have, the capacity to love oneself,
How many of them actually know?
Truth is the partner I select,
I do not make a deal with deceit,
Awaiting the evaluation of my worth by others—
That is a cage that I will never see.
Insults do not burn but become ash,
The soul is fueled by respect for oneself.
The more I recognize my own value,
I stay whole the brighter I become.
I don't bow down to anyone,
My spine is still straight,
I do not beg for favor or mercy;
My light is my respect for myself.
